The interaction coefficients of Ca.Ti and Mg in the dilute Sn-based solution have been de- termined at 1500℃.Experimental measurements were taken by equilibrating the slag-alloy systems with metallic Sn as flux and graphite as reducing agent under Ar atmosphere mixed with different portion of CO.It was found that a considerable error may produce if the coefficients of ε_(Ca)~(Ca),ε_(Mg)~(Mg)and ε_(Ti)~(Ti)in the molten Sn were neglected when the activities of the components CaO,MgO and TiO_2 in the slags were estimated by this method.

Influence of Ti on MC carbide of M2 high speed Steel was investigated by experimental observation, thermodynamic calculation and crystallographic calculation. With addition of Ti into M2 steel, large quantities of dispersed TiC particles formed in the steel melt at higher temperature than that of the formation of MC carbide. TiC can act as heterogeneous nuclei for the crystallization of MC carbide particles, and therefore promote the formation of blocky MC carbide.

Effect of CO2 on atmospheric corrosion of UNS G10190 steel under thin electrolyte film

The atmospheric corrosion of UNS G10190 steel under a thin electrolyte film in the atmosphere polluted by CO2 has been studied in the lab using an atmospheric corrosion monitor (ACM) in combination with XRD and SEM observations of the surface of steel. The ACM study indicated that the corrosion rate of the steel increased with increasing carbon dioxide concentration. The XRD and SEM observations showed that no carbonate was found in the corrosion product on the steel surface. The corrosion product consisted of two layers, i.e., inner and outer layer. From the experimental results, it was concluded that CO2 played an enhancing role in the atmospheric corrosion of UNS G10190 steel. The film of the corrosion product showed slight protection.

SPALLING MECHANISM OF NITRIDED LAYER OF AUSTENITIC STEEL 4Cr14Ni14W2Mo

The tendency of spalling of the nitrided layer of the hot rolled austenitic steel 4Cr14Ni14W2Mo exhibits close relation to the nitrided surface orientation relative to the rol- led steel rod.It is found that the dislocations in the imperfectly recrystalized steel align as parallel dislocation walls in macroscopic extent,and the thickness of the“white sublayer”in the nitrided layer is much larger at the surface which is parallel to the dislocation walls.On such surface the spalling of the nitrided layer happens often.

Mechanism of the Interfacial Reaction of AI_2O_3/Medium Mn Steel Containing Nb

The mechanism of the interfacial reaction of Al_2O_3/medium Mn steel containing Nb was studied by means of the observation on the interfacial reaction phenomenon of Al_2O_3/medium Mn steel,and the analyses on the interracial phases.The results show that when T≥1550℃,the interfacial reac- tion of Al_2O_3/medium Mn steel containing Nb happened.In the medium Mn steel matrix,Nb exists in the form of NbC.NbC are the nucleating base of CO gas bubbles.

Microstructure and Performance of 2Y-PSZ/TRIP Steel Composites

2Y-PSZ/TRIP steel composites have been sintered by hot-pressing method. Their microstructure and mechanical properties were investigated by means of SEM, TEM, XRD and static tension, split Hopkinson pressure bar method. The results showed that the strength and elastic modulus of 2Y-PSZ/TRIP steel composites at room temperature decreased with the increase of 2Y-PSZ content. The main reason was that the combining strength was quite weak between the grains of ZrO2. Distortion induced martensite transformation and plasticity during the dynamic loading increased the strength and distortion capability of the composites. The transformation was carried out mainly through twins formation. The shape of martensite induced by distortion was lamellate with substructures of twins. The habit plane was near {259}γ with no mid-ridge and no explosion phenomena. The interface was straight between the austenite and martensite induced by distortion. The increase of 2Y-PSZ content, on the one hand, made the composite dynamic flow stress improved. Thereby, the fracture strength was improved. On the other hand, it depressed both the distortion capability and the martensite transformation induced by distortion. This resulted in the decrease of dynamic fracture strength.

Emission Mitigation of CO2 in Steel Industry: Current Status and Future Scenarios

The sustainable development against global warming is a challenge faced by societies at global level. For steel industry, the pressure of reducing CO2 emission is likely to last many years. During the past decades, the CO2 emission per ton steel has been reduced mainly due to the improvement of energy efficiency. Entering the 21st century, the steel manufacturing route must have three functions, namely, production of high performance steel products, conversion of energy, and treatment of waste. In the near future, it is expected that existing BFBOF and EAF routes will be improved, in order to produce high performance steels, increase the use of scrap, and integrate steel industry with other industries for mitigating CO2 emission. In the long term, using carbonfree energy, reducing agents, and storing CO2 securely or converting CO2 into a harmless substance can be presumed for tremendous reduction in CO2 emission.

Behavior of MgO.Al2O3 Based Inclusions in Alloy Steel During Refining Process

The transformation of MgO•Al2O3 based inclusions in alloy steel during refining has been studied by industrial trials. Besides Factsage software is applied to study the formation and modification of spinel inclusions in alloy steel using calcium treatment during refining process. The results show the transformation sequence of inclusions is: MgO•Al2O3 → CaO–Al2O3–MgO complex inclusions → MgO•Al2O3; In order to avoid forming MgOAl2O3 inclusions, the content of dissolved Ca in the molten steel has to reach 1ppm.
